Sometimes teens don’t thrive, despite being bright and capable.
Despite your best efforts to help them, something is clearly getting in the way. There is a term called “Twice Exceptional” that is used to refer to a teen with a high IQ, but struggling with a learning difference/ disability. Their high IQ masks their learning challenge, and therefore they don’t receive diagnosis and accompanying support they need.
Issues may include: dyslexia, visual or auditory processing disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, sensory processing disorder, autism spectrum disorder, Tourette syndrome, or any other disability interfering with the student’s ability to learn effectively in a traditional environment. The child might have a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or diagnoses of anxiety or depression.
These kids are often misunderstood, referred to as lazy or oppositional. When in reality, they are struggling, and no one clearly understands why. These teens would benefit from a psycho-educational assessment. To learn more, please contact me to set up a FREE initial parent consultation.
