Some teens are born with creative souls.
These teens may not be as interested in their academic studies or grades. Not every young person is interested in attending college. Some artists, musicians, dancers, singers and actors want nothing more than to pursue their love of art.
As a parent, you know that there is a lot of competition for a coveted position in music and theatre, or the field of creative expression. Yet simply saying “no” to their dream does not help your relationship, or their cooperation. Instead, there may be a middle ground to explore.
Is there a way to incorporate art in their academic experience, that they might also learn all the skills necessary to pursue a life of independence and autonomy? Is a design school or music academy an option? Is a double major a way to incorporate their passion with general academic studies? If your child is a creative, I suggest we consider getting creative in supporting them.
